Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been won on hard courts

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev secured his initial championship for 882 days with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the competition championship match.

Medvedev, a former number one, has endured a torrid period, managing just one win at the major tournaments and experiencing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

The player's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his service game in especial - resulted in him dropping out of the world's top 10 and finally separating with long-term coach Gilles Cervara.

Presently working with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, he has gradually advanced in the past month - climaxing in a closely contested three-set triumph over opponent Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's initial title following the Rome competition and maiden on a hard surface since March of that year.

Victory also indicates Medvedev has achieved twenty-one championships at twenty-one various tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a event with my two daughters at once, so to get a championship is especially meaningful," commented ranked player Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my child her name, because the maiden victory I achieved when my first daughter her name was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his last six championship matches, comprising in Halle in the past months.

His defensive strategy and frequent outbursts on court had led observers to question if his skill to perform at the top level was over.

However the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the past month, making an effort to approach the net and perform positively, supported by an enhanced serve.

He came back from a disadvantage in the first set against the tricky opponent, taking four of the final five games to go ahead.

The pair swapped breaks in the second set before the challenger, striving for his maiden professional victory, seized the initiative to force a decider.

The opponent rescued 4 initial break points in a tight deciding set before the Russian secured a break to that score to serve for the match.

Appropriately, the winner secured victory with a rally at the net, with his opponent incapable to handle a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
